Category Slideshow Images

So the categories all have slideshows now and look good but there are some things to keep in mind when making these images – they are a uniform size across the site but that size is larger than what is displayable in the max witdth of the page – the reason for this is that I am trying to future proof and accomodate modes of viewing that would need a larger size – we might redo these smaller as there are only 5 sections that require a header image or slider…

To format and upload an image here are the specs

  1. size is 1600×600 – 72dpi
  2. once exported from photoshop I run it through tinypng.com manually to reduce it more – often it saves an additional 20% to 40% over photoshops compression.
  3. The header image on the contact page disregards these sizes entirely – just make that image 600px wide and it will swap out fine…

New for 2022 – How to prepare images for the gallery…

This is a revised set of parameters for uploading your images – its pretty simple and should fix some image sizing problems on the site…

You format the images exactly as you did before with some size changes — Namely the size of the long side of the image – if the horizontal or the vertical is the longer side – you need to size that side to be 2050px…

Problems with some of the images you have been uploading.

  1. You are cropping some images to be squarish – almost 1×1 – you have your reasons which is cool but these images would benefit from some extra pixels when being displayed or cropped for use as a slider… Example – if an image is
The original iamge with almot a 1 to 1 ratio – we want the long edge to be uniform for the website to be able to crop and size the image…
the original image upsized to 2050 – the site crops it to 2048
This image is processed theough TinyPNG.com ans is only 370k vs the 540k of the 1500px opriginal image…
  2. I conceed tha there are some images that must be taken vertically vs horizontally and you know better than I being the actual photographer – so the above rule applies for this as well – make the long edge (in this case the tall edge) be 2050px – the other edge can be whatever…
